Marlborough Oysters Ltd are currently looking for a Spat and Research Manager to join our team.
This is a newly created position in our growing oyster company. The successful applicant will divide their time between our new nursery in Nelson and our oyster farming operations in the Marlborough Sounds.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Work with the Operations Manager to develop new research opportunities
Assist with the application and management of funding programmes for research and development
Plan research operation workflows in association with the Operations and Farm Managers
Work in the nursery on grading and other nursery operations as requested by the Nursery Manager
Assist Nursery Manager with maintenance, cleaning and record keeping etc. as required
Act as a backup for on call emergency support for the nursery operation when required
Grading oysters on barge in Whakitenga Bay or other location
Transporting oysters and equipment with small vessels
Assisting with spat transfers and harvesting of oysters
Farm maintenance and establishment
Vessel and equipment maintenance
Keeping premises and vessels clean
Record keeping as required
Maintenance of a safe workplace
Any other relevant tasks as requested
The successful applicant will need to have:
Experience in nursery operations - preferably oyster spat
Experience in managing research projects and a relevant qualification
Operational experience utilising the FlipFarm system
Proven leadership and people skills
A full drivers licence
A Skipper's licence is preferable
This is a full time position working 40 hours per week and a remuneration package between $70,000 - $80,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
